Summer Scrapbooking Pages

Whew, it’s been a busy summer, but I did manage to get a few things made. These album pages were part of a scrapbook I made for a fund raiser. It was a blast! Some of the die cuts were cut with my Cricut (palm tree, letters,) and others were die cuts from Sizzix and other miscellanious dies.

To give die cuts some definition and interest, I like to sand the ones made from white core cardstock, I also add chalk and glitter or embossing too. Another thing I do often is to pop them up with zots to give more of a 3-D design. Enjoy

An easier way to scrapbook….

Have a hard time remembering events by the time you get around to scrapbooking? Here’s an easy tip. Keep a regular spiral-bound notebook handy. When a memorable event happens, simply write it down in the notebook, along with pertinent information (people, place, date of event, memory), taking one page for each event. When it’s time to scrapbook, simply start on the first page of your notebook. When you are finished scrapbooking, tear out that notebook page. No more trying to remember what happened! Each time you’re ready to scrapbook, grab that notebook and start on the top page!

Where has my creativity gone?

Recently, with all the summer activities, it seems like me and a whole lot of other people have gone for quite some time without creating. If you’re an addict like me, you just get the urge to go “make something”. But if you’re like me, you go look at your supplies and have no idea where to start.

The only thing I can do in that situation is just start on something, no matter how small. Grab a card blank and just look through supplies to see what matches and start arranging them till something strikes your fancy.

Another idea is to have some sort of notebook where you can doodle and make drawings of idea you have, just so you have some sort of inspiration when you do have time to craft. You can also cut out pictures and glue them in a notebook of patterns and designs that please your eye.

In other words, for all you busy people out there like me, you have to create to be creative….and that challenge is for myself more than anybody

Don’t have the right color brad?

Here’s a quick tip for you when you’re in a jam! If you’re like me, you have brads galore, but how come you can never find the perfect color for your project? Here’s a quick tip: just find the right size of brad, dip it into clear embossing ink, and then dip it into embossing powder the color you want, set it with your heat tool, and voila, perfect brad color. This is also great if you want a glimmer brad, just use sparkly embossing powder

More cricut cuts…

Hmmm…just got Cricut Design Studio the other day, and I just can’t quit “designing stuff”! I know they are all their designs in the first place, but with the design studio, you can use the cartridges you have to put your own twist on things (nope, they are not paying me to say this, I just love anything to do with the Cricut ). For instance, I put a flower design with a saying from the Storybook cartridge and came up with this:

Card Using Cricut Wild Card

The more I use my Cricut, the more I love it. I actually haven’t been paying much attention to the newer Cricut cartridges, but then had a look and saw the Cricut Wild Card cartridge and got it for a good price. You know how small those sample pictures are in the ads, so I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting. I was so happy when I saw what the card patterns were! I just love this oval one with the scroll work on it. I cut the card at 5.5″, then popped up some butterfly stickers on zots and also put a brad through a two layer flower. Voila! Just like that, and easy and beautiful card! Then of course, there’s no guess work on the envelope either, since the cartridge easily cuts a matching envelope just the right size…ahhh….card lover’s heaven

Here’s another version using lots and lots of silver stickles…another product I love to use!

3-D Mom Card

This Mother’s Day card will take a little extra time to complete, but it will be worth your time! It has a 3-D effect because you will be adding a little extra to the flower.

You will need:

2 sheets of paper with flowers and leaves ~ they must have the same design!

Small foam adhesive dots

Double-sided tape

4 gold mini brads

1 mini spiral clip

Sheer gold ribbon

Beige cardstock

Red cardstock

Scissors

Glue stick

Gold Glitter Glue (optional)

Black Pen or Clear “MOM” sticker

Directions:

Cut a rose or other flower from patterned scrapbook paper.

Cut out another flower exactly the same from the second sheet. Now pick out 5-6 flower petals and cut them out. Using foam dots, adhere the cut petals right on top of the matching flower petals on your first flower. After they are all put in place, use gold glitter glue around the edges for an elegant touch. Lay the flower aside to dry. (You can see the 3-D effect below on my finished card.)

Use a beige piece of cardstock or a premade card and have the fold on top.

Cut a red piece of cardstock slightly bigger than your beige card and adhere to the back of the beige card.

Cut a piece of sheer gold ribbon the width of your card plus 4 extra inches. Using the edges of your card as a guide, fold the ribbon back and hold it in place with 2 gold mini brads on each side. Use double-sided tape to affix the ribbon to the front of your card. (If the prongs or the brads show through the ribbon, carefully cut them back using scissors or a wire cutter.)

Make a tag out of red cardstock, either cutting it by hand or using a die-cut. Place a gold spiral clip at the top and adhere to the left front of the card with foam adhesive tape. Write “MOM” on the tag or use a clear sticker.

After the glitter glue is dried on your flower, adhere it with foam tape to the top right of your card. Now glue the leaves that you cut earler on either side of the rose. You can use a pencil to curl the edges of the rose petals a little if you want.

This card does take a little longer with all the cutting and letting the glitter glue dry, but your mom sure will think it’s extra special!
